Event promoters and consumers are targets for the Magnum Big 20 Celebrations, which kicked off Wednesday evening with a media launch at Mas Camp in Kingston.
Magnum Tonic Wine is celebrating its 20th anniversary and the Big 20 is part of plans to commemorate the milestone.
“We are targeting our promoters of events. We need our promoters of events because they are the ones hosting these events across the island and they are selling Magnum and endorsing the brand,” said Telecia Lindo Johnson, marketing manager of J Wray & Nephew Limited in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.
She added that promoters can tap into www.magnumhub.tv and upload a video of themselves, stating why Magnum should sponsor their event for Christmas. The videos with the most votes will win.
Twenty winners will receive $500,000 each from Magnum Tonic Wine for their event. There will be one winner from each parish and an additional six from overall entrants; promotion ends October 31 while voting closes November 11.
There will be three Town Square parties at venues to be announced. They will feature Magnum’s new brand ambassadors, Spice, and Ding Dong. At each party, 20 consumers will have the chance to win $400,000.
The launch featured performances from Spice, Ding Dong, and Dance Xpressions. The latter took guests on a journey through popular dance moves.

Due to overwhelming response, Magnum Tonic Wine has expanded its TekChargeAYard Dance Challenge to Belize, Antigua, and Barbuda, St Vincent, and The Grenadines, and Guyana.
The challenge was initially open to participants from Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.
“Initially, the competition was for Jamaica and Trinidad, our two largest markets, but after a week the initial response was so large that we opted to allow other territories to participate,” Kamal Powell, J Wray & Nephew’s brand marketing manager for the Caribbean, explained.
The competition’s objective is to unearth the region’s most talented dancers, with competitors vying for a share of US$2,000. Three winners will be selected.
“Magnum champions dancehall wherever we take it and it attracts a dynamic audience of dancehall fans across the region. Certainly, each country will add their own level of flair but for the most part, it remains an authentic dancehall experience,” said Powell.
Magnum has been associated with the genre since the company’s inception 20 years ago. In addition to the defunct Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall televised competition, Magnum has aligned itself with weekly parties across Jamaica.
Powell said the brand has also made inroads in the Caribbean market.
